TOŠE – Australian Macedonian Dance Ensemble Inc.

The Australian Macedonian Dance Ensemble TOŠE was formed in late 2009 as a means for providing a social environment for the Macedonian youth of Melbourne interested in Macedonian performance art and culture to come together to learn, keep fit, socialise and discuss contemporary art.

The group is a first in the sense that it is a youth group started and directed by youth, who are working to explore contemporary influence to the Macedonian art form. Combining traditional culture with contemporary influences and innovative ideas, TOŠE aim to work towards presenting the Macedonian culture to a wider international audience in a fresh and contemporary way.

The group took the name after Toše Proeski as an example and reminder of how he was able to take Macedonian culture and bring it into the 21st century, while still keeping its authenticity, tradition and beauty. As Toše was an artistic leader and bright example, so too our group seeks to become a powerful example of the beauty of our traditional and contemporary culture, creating visual, audio and motion art forms that resonate not only with the previous generations, but with the Macedonian youth and the wider Australian community.

The group will focus on infusing modern and traditional dance and music elements, to create a new sub-genre of art, thinking out-side the square. With this, the group aims to target a wider demographic audience.

It is organised and executed by the Macedonian youth in an attempt to bring this new genre of art, to all interested, regardless of background or upbringing. The intention of this group is to build an elite group of dancers / performers with the possibility to tour interstate and / or overseas.

We are not affiliated with any political, religious or other groups and focus strictly on fulfilling our aforementioned objectives and goals.

We welcome all ongoing support of any nature, and appreciate the assistance provided to sustain the vision of the group.

Combining traditional culture with contemporary influences and innovative ideas, the Australian Macedonian Dance Ensemble TOŠE aim to work towards presenting the Macedonian culture to a wider international audience in a fresh and contemporary way.
